Women in Distress in Mapusa Market, Mapusa, Goa

Women in Distress in Mapusa Market
Women in Distress in Mapusa Market

We received a call from a young local lady this morning asking if we could help a lady who seemed to be in a bad state in Mapusa market. We don't really usually handle adults as we generally think they should be able to look after themselves but this lady was in a really bad state, semi unconscious laying on the path with a badly swollen arm.

As we arrived the caller showed us the lady and we tried to organise an ambulance for her. The ambulance staff said they would need to call the police, so we got in touch with the police who then ask the ambulance to attend. When the ambulance arrived at the VERY busy Mapusa market the ambulance staff (one lady one man) came to see the patient keeping a good 3ft from her and then thought a gurney was required, as most of you will know, the mapusa market isn't really designed for ease of access, so Robert helped the man with the gurney over the cauliflower stall and over the random large stone onto the pavement. The gurney was then lowered and the ambulance staff then gestured to the lady to get on the gurney. If let on her own, we would probably still be there so Robert gave a helping hand. Robert and the Ambulance staff then navigated the gurney back to the ambulance and then met them back at the district hospital.

One nurse was more hands on with the patient (which was nice to see), whereas most of the other nurses and doctors kept a good few feet away. i must admit there was a strong odour, but its sad that people can't overcome such simple barriers to show a little compassion to the lady who must have been in terrible pain. After the bandage was removed she had a good 3 to 4 inch long and 2 to 3 inch wide puss filled wound on her inner arm with more infections on the opposite side. She has been transferred to GMC where she will hopefully be cleaned up and make a full recovery.

Friendly Faces of our children at Janata School in Mapusa
Friendly Faces of our children at Janata School in Mapusa

Janata school in Mapusa is one of the main schools that our chioldren attend with around 40 of our children in attendance. It was the first school we gave out the football shirts to, this was before we had received all of them so we did not realise at that time how many we would have.

A couple of thousand shirts later we realised we had enough to give out to the younger standards at Janata School.

We spoke to the Headmasteragain and he was delighted for us to give out more shirts. We packed up the bike with two very large bags and headed into Mapusa, on arriving at the school a couple of the bigger children helped by carrying one of the bags and we went from class to class giving out the shirts.

Thank you to the teachers, children and Headmaster at Janata high school for the help on the day.

A lovely outfit given to a child in the slum
A lovely outfit given to a child in the slum

We have been giving out a few clothes recently and while sorting the clothes at the centre we came acrooss a very special outfit. We weren't sure to start with who to give it out to as it was a little too small for any of our regular children.

We went out to the slums to meet some of the parents and this little boy came striding out of his house to say hello (without any clothes on and we thought he would be the perfect size for this little special suit. His mother wasn't aware of how nice he would look in his new outfit and it was a joy to see her face one he had his new outfit on.

The outfit was a tiny bit too large but as children grow so quickly he would surely fit it perfectly in a couple of months. As you can see fro the photo he looks fantastic, although a little shell shocked about all the attention. As we were leaving his mother was going to take it offm but the boy had decided he liked it better on! :)

Doesn't he look so good! Thank you to Shalinee GL for the lovely outfit

Football Caps keeping the heat off the children's heads, Mapusa, Goa

Football Caps keeping the heat off the children's heads
Football Caps keeping the heat off the children's heads

Recently the blogs and facebook have been inundated with posts on football shirts, we literally have been giving out thousands. Along with the shirts we also received football caps. There weren't as many caps compared to shirts and as the shirts were larger sizes we thought we would give the caps out to the younger children at the local governernment schools.Local to us are three government schools with the largest being in Karaswada just down the road. The school has around 120 children at a guess and we provided caps to all those from 1st to 4th standard. The other two schools were small in comparision and in total we probably gave out 170+ caps. The caps were a little big for the younger kids, but they still loved receiving them as you can see from the photo.

Over the following weeks we kept seeing the caps being worn by the kids and family members.

Thanks as always to Blurb for the hats!

Shree Shanta Vidya Children rceiving their 2 shirts each from Robert and Yallama

We are slowly getting through the stacks of donated shirts that Blurb Goa donated at the begining of the year. We got in contact with Shree Shanta Vidya School in Siolim where a few of our children attend. We asked if they would be interested in the children receiving a couple of football shirts each.

After orgnasing a day we head out to the school on motorbike with over 200 shirts. As we arrived all the children were having assembly and were introduced to the children. Robert and Yallama spent 15 minutes providing each of the older children with two shirts each.

To date we have given out over 1200 football shirts and still have around 1000 more shirts (guestimate) to give out.

Thank you to Blurb of course! :)

A few hundred more football shirts were given out in a Govterment high school close to the Goa Education Department in Porvorim. The school's head mistress helped organise the children and each standard seperated into girls and boys. The children were brought out to receive their donated shirts and we quickly snapped a few photos before the next group were brought out.

As with the other schools we also provided a set of footballs for the children to use during break. Thank you to the head mistress and staff as well as the children for their help during the day and of course the education department for allowing us to support the local children.

As always, thanks to Blurb for thier amazing doation
