Diwali is upon us, and this year we have given out the biggest rations yet to the families. The packages were so large that they didn't fit in many of the bags we stitched, so we had to pack them in plastic bags. Some of the bags were just big enough to fit them in.

In addition to the rations, we also gave the families a choice of other items, such as buckets, towels, bed sheets, pillow cases, and more.

The rations consisted of rice, tur dal, flour, sugar, salt, poha, turmeric, chili powder, garam masala, sunflower oil, tea powder, garlic ginger paste, 3 soaps, 2 toothpastes, shampoo, toothbrush, mosquito protection, 2 packs of biscuits (Bourbon and Oreo), clothes washing soap, and utensil washing soap.

The families always look forward to the Diwali gift, as it helps them so much during the Diwali celebrations.

Savita's Kind Birthday Celebration with the Children, Mapusa, Goa

Children ready for a sugar rush
Children ready for a sugar rush

Savita, a regular visitor to our center, kindly celebrated her birthday with the children today. She came in yesterday to make preparations, and spent the day baking delicious cupcakes, decorating them with shaped chocolates and fondant shapes, and assembling goodie bags filled with masks, sanitizer, biscuits, cake, and juice.

The children had a sugar rush, but they also had a lot of fun. They sang happy birthday to Savita, played games, and danced. Savita was clearly touched by their appreciation, and she said that she had a wonderful time.

We are so grateful to Savita for her generosity and thoughtfulness. She is a true friend to the children, and we are lucky to have her in our community.
